4 Tips for Healthy Summer Hair
Summer is here, and along with the warm weather and beach days comes the need for extra care and attention to keep your hair healthy and vibrant. The sun, humidity, and exposure to chlorine and seawater can wreak havoc on your tresses, but with these four simple tips, you can ensure your hair stays nourished, protected, and looks fabulous all summer long. 1. Hydration is Key: The summer heat can leave your hair feeling dry and brittle. Combat this by delivering proper hydration to your strands with our Hydrate and Protect Hair Milk with Rose and Apricot. An extra hydration boost helps to replenish lost moisture due to sun exposure, chlorine from swimming pools, or saltwater from the beach. This solutionwon't weigh down your hair or leave it feeling heavy, allowing your locks to stay bouncy and voluminous when you need it. 2. Prevent Damage & Keep it Natural: Embrace your manes natural beauty with our Sea Mist Spray with Sea Salt and Lavender to help to define your natural hair texture, allowing you to enhance your waves or curls without the need for excessive styling with heated tools. This reduces overall heat exposure to your hair and helps to minimize the risk of damage in the long-run. 3. Gentle Detangling: Summer activities like swimming or playing in water can lead to bouts of tangles and knots. Opt to spray our Leave-in Conditioning Mist with Green Tea and Calendula as a detangling agent to make it easier to comb through your hair, helping to reduce stress on strands and minimizing breakage. Simply spritz it onto damp or dry hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends for a tangle-free mane. 4. Deep Conditioning Treatments: Skip the expensive salon conditioning treatments and bring the salon to your home with ease. Treat your hair to our Nourishing Hair Mask with Rose and Apricot as a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week to help supercharge lost moisture to strands and repair damage to ends. Apply our treatment to clean, damp hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends, rinse thoroughly, and enjoy the silky softness and improved manageability of your hair. By following these four tips, you can enjoy the sun-filled season without worry and achieve healthy summer hair in the process. Hydrate, prevent damage, detangle gently, and indulge in deep conditioning treatments to keep your locks looking their best all season long. Embrace the beauty of summer with confidence, knowing that your hair is receiving the care it deserves.

6 Ways You Can Help #SaveTheBees
The presence of bees is essential for the establishment of diverse and healthy ecosystems on a global scale. Across the globe, there are more than 20,000 distinct species of bees that inhabit diverse habitats. Regrettably, a significant portion of our society has prioritized the elimination of these pollinators from our gardens through the use of pesticides and harmful chemicals. In what way do bees contribute to the balance of the ecosystem?Bees hold the vital role of a keystone species in the ecosystem, and the decline of bees would have a catastrophic impact on the majority of life forms. Many animals depend on bees as their survival hinges on the pollination of their food sources, such as nuts, berries, seeds, and fruits. Here are some ways you can help #savethebees in your own community: 1. Plant Bee-Friendly Gardens:Create a bee-friendly habitat by planting native flowers, herbs, and shrubs that provide nectar and pollen for bees. Avoid using pesticides and herbicides in your garden to protect bees from harmful chemicals. 2. Support Local Beekeepers: Buy locally produced honey and other bee products, supporting beekeepers in your community. This helps sustain beekeeping practices and supports the health and well-being of bees. 3. Support Pollinator-Friendly Agriculture: GO ORGANIC! Purchase organic and locally produced fruits, vegetables, and other food products that are grown using pollinator-friendly practices. This encourages sustainable farming methods that prioritize the well-being of bees and other pollinators. 4. Create Water Sources: Bees need water to stay hydrated. Provide shallow water sources in your garden, such as a shallow dish with rocks for bees to land on and drink safely. 5. Engage Your Community: Organize workshops, seminars, or community events to educate others about bees and their conservation. Encourage schools, local businesses, and community groups to join the efforts to save the bees. Together, we can make a significant impact in protecting these crucial pollinators. 6. Avoid Using Chemicals: Minimize or eliminate the use of pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides in your yard and garden. These chemicals can be harmful to bees and other pollinators. Instead, explore organic and natural alternatives for pest control. The need to protect bees and other pollinators is a shared responsibility. By spreading awareness about their crucial role, we can ignite a movement to save them and secure a healthy ecosystem for all.

Frizz Control 101
The 17 Best Frizz-Control Products for Fine Hair of 2024 Written by: Lindsay Colomeo and Caitlyn Martin www.byrdie.com No hair type is immune to frizz, but one might argue the thin-haired crowd gets the short end of the stick. Why? Solutions for the problem often weigh hair down, making it look overly stiff, slick, or even greasy. So, what are folks with fine strands to do? Luckily, we're privy to several effective products that smooth flyaways without adding unnecessary heaviness or creating an excessively sleek appearance. It's all about sealing the cuticles, strengthening the hair shaft, and moisturizing parched strands to deliver healthy-looking hair from root to end. From creams and treatments to shampoos and conditioners, there's something that'll work for your unique hair and preferred styling regimen. To find the best frizz-control products that don’t weigh down fine hair, we conducted hours of research—evaluating each product based on their active ingredients, whether or not they actually tame unruly flyaways, and how nicely they absorb into hair strands. After considering dozens of formulas, we landed on these top-rated picks. Best Mask: John Masters Organics Nourishing Hair Mask with Rose and Apricot ($32) What We Like: Ultra moisturizing formula Works fast in 3-5 minutes Gentle on sensitive scalp What We Don’t Like:Strong floral rose scent Hair masks can do wonders for addressing frizz, like this ultra-moisturizing formula by John Masters Organics. The texture is not too thick or too thin, striking the Goldilocks ideal for a pampering treatment that hydrates the heck out of dry, brittle, overworked hair. It melts into strands as you run it through your hair from root to tip, and after five minutes of letting it work its magic, it rinses away, leaving hair soft and shiny, not coated or heavy. The end result is a cleansed scalp, decreased split ends, and all-around smoother strands. It also doubles as a masterful curl cream, wrangling curls while maintaining a healthy springy bounce for tendrils that are smooth and shiny.

How to Make Lasting Habits
As creatures of habit, we tend to follow the same patterns and routines throughout our lives. We become acclimated to the potentially unhealthy or harmful habits we’ve formed previously, and it may become difficult to change your routine and build new, healthier habits that last a lifetime. Creating long-lasting habits takes time, dedication, commitment, and good knowledge of yourself and your limits. “Successful people are simply those with successful habits.” – Brian Tracy Tip 1: Setting Attainable Goals One way to start your journey of incorporating long-lasting wellness routines into your lifestyle is by setting attainable goals to help you with healthier habits. Setting goals can be beneficial in multiple ways: Providing a direction and sense of focus to a desired end, providing inspiration to complete a specific task for a desired reward, and even providing yourself with the accountability of whether you were able to achieve said goals. When setting goals, it’s important that you create well-defined, attainable goals, rather than setting unrealistic expectations of yourself. Setting far-stretched goals can diminish your enthusiasm, as well as lower your self-esteem and motivation by failing to meet the personal expectations you’ve set of yourself. Setting unrealistic goals can also increase your stress and anxiety, which is counterproductive to reaching your target. If you have a larger goal you’d like to reach, it may be beneficial to break that goal into smaller, more achievable targets. This can help you to stay more focused and dedicated to the task at hand, as well as make it easier to measure your progress toward your goals. Tip 2: Consistency is Key You may have heard the phrase “Consistency is Key” in many parts of your life. Well, in fact, consistency IS the key to building long-lasting habits. Studies show that it takes anywhere from 18 to 254 days to form a new habit, and on average, 66 days for that behavior to become automatic. (https://www.healthline.com/health/how-long-does-it-take-to-form-a-habit ) With this being said, a new habit cannot be formed without commitment and dedication to the task. The more consistent you become, the easier the habit will be to stick, and the harder it will become to break. Consistency not only helps to form long-lasting habits, but it also helps you to become disciplined, committed, and more patient with yourself. Tip 3: Progress over Perfection Choosing to embrace your progress over your perfection is one way to swap your mindset to a “progress mentality” to encourage building healthier long-lasting habits. When creating and building habits, it’s important to keep track of progress toward solidifying that habit or reaching a desired goal. The more you are monitoring your progress made toward a goal, the more you are aware of your task and the likelier you are to succeed at achieving that goal. Tip 4: Reward Yourself We all need incentives… You are your biggest source of inspiration & motivation... Even the smallest goals deserve rewards when attained. When you give yourself a reward, your brain produces a feel-good hormone, dopamine, which makes us feel happy and reinforces behaviors as worthwhile. When you reinforce healthy behaviors – such as hitting milestones in your workouts or staying dedicated to a task for a period of time - as worthwhile, you’re training your body to naturally want to do more of those things you’re being rewarded for. This will make it easier for you to continue on your healthy-habit making ways, and enjoy the process with rewards while you’re doing so.

Ingredient Spotlight: Acacia Senegal Gum
We proudly boast the incredible style-holding power of our USDA-certified organic, aerosol-free natural Hair Spray because it’s one of the few of its kind on the market. How can a natural and organic hair spray mist possibly work just as well –– if not better –– than the colorful aerosol cans we see lined up on the shelves in stores and salons? The secret to the long-lasting, flake-free medium hold of our natural Hair Spray is called acacia senegal gum: an ingredient sustainably sourced from the bark of Acacia Senegal trees. The extracted white powder is a natural, soluble fiber obtained from the hardened sap, and is used as a binder in many beauty products from skincare to toothpaste. Its ability to provide texture and hold is what gives our hair spray the ability to keep styles in place all-day long while still remaining easy to brush and wash out at the end of the day.

Argan Oil - Our Liquid Gold
The amazing liquid multivitamin for hair, skin, and nails known as argan oil is aptly and commonly dubbed “liquid gold” in the beauty world. Sourced from the little brown nut of the –– you guessed it –– Argan tree that is native to Southwestern Morocco, it can take days to cold-press just a liter of the precious and nutrient-rich oil.Argan oil is packed with essential fatty acids, age-fighting antioxidants, must-have minerals, and deeply nourishing vitamins A and E. On the hair argan oil smooths split ends, tames frizz, and conditions strands from root to tip without weighing hair down. Pressing pure argan oil into bare skin protects complexions from sun damage, pollution, dryness and signs of aging without feeling greasy. Nails grow strong and cuticles are smoothed and soft when this lightweight oil is used on the hands. Try adding a few drops of argan oil to a bath and be amazed by how luxuriously nourished skin feels when you get out and wrap yourself in a towel. While argan oil’s rise in popularity has made it more accessible to consumers, it has also led to an array of imposters and diluted formulas on the market that are cheapened with filler ingredients such as silicones, artificial preservatives, dyes, fragrances, and other oils. Our single-ingredient 100% Argan Oil is not only pure and cold-pressed to maintain its nutrients and benefits, but it’s also USDA-certified organic so you can feel confident you’re only putting the best on your body.If you’re looking to simplify your beauty routine and free up space in your cabinet, argan oil can become your multi-tasking wonder elixir that nourishes from head to toe.
Happy Birthday to Us!
August 2022 marks the 28th anniversary of the beginning of John Masters Organics. While organic and clean beauty has been a trend on the rise the last few years, 28 years ago the idea of an organic, nature-based beauty line was radical and innovative. In 1994 John Masters was just a hair stylist with an idea. He had a passion for holistic living and natural, organic ingredients, which contradicted his work in the chemical-filled hair salons of New York. Toxic products and aerosols steep the air with formaldehyde, ammonia, fragrances, parabens and other harsh chemicals as clients came to receive their hair coloring, perms and treatments. With an idea to revolutionize the beauty world, John decided to remove himself from the salon space and began seeing his clients in his little Manhattan apartment –– soon after, he opened the world’s first clean air salon, John Masters Organic Salon in New York. While his revolutionary salon has since closed it doors, John continues his mission to spread the goodness of non-toxic beauty through John Masters Organics so that both professionals and non-professionals alike can enjoy safe, effective, natural, and organic beauty products.

The Secret Behind a Sulfate-Free Lather
At some point or another most people have been told to remove sulfates from their hair care regimen. Whether it’s to prolong the vibrancy of hair color or because sulfates are known to irritate sensitive skin, there are more than a few reasons why banishing sulfates from your haircare routine is a good idea. You may be surprised at just how many shampoos and other beauty products contain sulfates such as sodium lauryl sulfate, or SLS. SLS is an emulsifier and foaming agent that helps soaps, shampoos and cleansers create a foamy lather that makes skin and hair feel clean. However, that super-clean feeling can actually mean that skin and hair have been stripped of their natural, protective oils, leaving complexions and strands dried out and damaged with prolonged use. SLS also notoriously strips hair color, leaving vibrant, rich hues dull and faded. When it comes to natural hair care, many companies have chosen to eliminate sulfates, leaving their shampoos without lather entirely. These formulas tend to be thinner and more difficult to evenly distribute throughout the hair and scalp, which makes it tough to get an all-over clean feeling. Unfortunately, this has left natural shampoos with a reputation of being inadequate, or simply not being as enjoyable to use as a shampoo formulated with sulfates. Luckily, sulfates aren’t the only way to get a great lather. In all of our shampoos at John Masters Organics, we use naturally derived surfactants sourced from coconuts that provide our formulas with a rich, creamy foam, making every wash feel luxurious. In our fan-favorite Shampoo For Normal Hair With Lavender & Rosemary we use coconut-derived Cocamidopropyl Betaine to create our signature lather so you can enjoy a lush, effective wash that evenly distributes throughout hair for healthy, naturally clean locks from root to tip.
